Bobby Umar, MBA is a highly sought after GMAT instructor in North America. Text Has Mathematical Errors/Typos

While I have used Barron's test prep in the past (for the SAT) and was pleased with the program, this book seems to have not been proof-read prior to publication. I am not a mathematics expert (hence why I purchased this book), but this book is riddled with mathematical errors. There are errors on pages 91, 108, 112, 183, 197, 212, 213, 215. I am only on page 221 of this book and am beginning to doubt whether or not there was an editor. In fact, I am starting to think that this book was written at 3 am between double shots of espresso. Lest you doubt my claims that there are errors, allow me to give examples of them. Page 197 claims that 49/3 = 18 1/3. Page 213 loses a 6 in the denominator of an equation with no explanation. Page 215 states that 70 = 28 + X and that X = 56.

The nitty gritty: this book has good tips for test taking, hence the two stars. But if you are a person who likes to really study these test books to learn how to take a test, you may drive yourself crazy trying to figure out what you did wrong on a problem when, in fact, there is an error in the text.

Good read, good advice

My husband, who usually does not like to read - especially books that tell him what to do - asked me to buy this book for him. This book makes sense and it has advise on things he can use.

A bit wordy in the beginning chapters and repetitive about hiring a physical trainer. Bob Forman covers golf specific stretching exercises and then golf specific strengthening exercises. Improving the strength of the abdominal muscles to fix lower back pain worked for me. Overall I found the exercises do work and the book is worth buying. I recommend it.

Forman's easy-to-understand explanations work for everyone... Exercises that anyone can do just about anywhere - and he explains issues with different parts of your body (if you have some pain or stiffness in one area, focus on that section)... Clearly loves what he's doing - and wants everyone to enjoy golf for a long time!

Finally, the answers I've been looking for!

I read the previous review on this book, and almost didn't get it based on what I read. But some inner guidance of mine convinced me to give it a try, and I'm so thankful I did. Finding information about yods - the esoteric kind of information I was craving - was not something I was having any luck with. But from the minute I started reading this book, I knew I was home. And then when I identified where my yod was, found which axis of awareness I was on, and read what she said about it ... about ME ... I knew I'd found what I needed.

Yes, there were typos. But given the bigger picture of what I was learning I was able to overlook that. In fact, I ended up emailing the author for a personal reading and found her to be an amazingly insightful, compassionate and wise astrologer and person.

I unconditionally recommend this book to anyone who finds themselves searching the subject of yods.

Esoteric is the word

This is a very thin little book written in the early 80s. It offers a potentially useful concept of the yod as a spiritual challenge activated by the two planets at the "foot" of the yod, and focused on the challenge found at the head of the yod. A meridian or line drawn between the planet at the head of the yod, and the mid-point between to two planets at the foot, shows the contrasting energies that must be reconciled to make use of the powerful energies generated by the yod.

That said, the author was entranced with the word "esoteric." Its in every other sentence, it seems. Trouble is, never once does she define what she means by the term. Its so overwhelmingly significant that she assumes all will understand it. Not good.

The term's meaning, and its full import, can be gleaned thru a brief internet search. But be forwarded: in her mind, many of the traditional rulership relations of astrology are radically adjusted.

The book ends with a series of charts that include yods. However, there is not a single word describing or interpreting them, and they are in such small print that I find them all but unreadable and thus useless.

All in all, the book has some value, but there are much more accessible books on the subject. And as with many books of this nature, a good editor would have made a huge difference.

About the Author
Russell Staiff holds a PhD in art history from the University of Melbourne where he was the foundation lecturer in the postgraduate visual arts and tourism program. He began his life in heritage and tourism as a tour guide in Italy. Currently, he teaches in the heritage and tourism program at the University of Western Sydney and Silpakorn University, Bangkok. He researches the various intersections between cultural heritage, communities and tourism with a particular emphasis on Southeast Asia.
