About the Author

Maki Oomachi (Tokyo, Japan) has studied art since childhood. After working at the Suntory Museum, she became a designer at Mind Wave, a stationery manufacturer in Japan. She then began selling consignment knitting accessories and stuffed toys and amiguraumi at the store Jam Cover in Tokyo. She now divides her time between creating her adorable crafts and writing books about them. Maki is also the author of Simply Adorable Crochet (Race Point Publishing).

Not what I thought.

The following description of the contents of this book is a complete fabrication as there are no patterns for ducks, squirrels with acorns, mice, ladybugs, deer, bunnies, donkeys, kittens, or raccoons:

"Complete with easy-to-follow patterns for super-cute ducks, birds, squirrels with acorns, mice, ladybugs, deer, bunnies, lambs, donkeys, kittens, bears, raccoons, and more--these are must-have projects to make for kids or for the animal-lover in your life."

These animal patterns are included: two kangaroos, pig, alpaca, dog, seal, giraffe, horse, two bears, and caterpillar. The remaining patterns are an odd assortment of simple accessories. Of the 30 patterns, only 11 are animals and 18 are a mix of miscellaneous and mostly simple objects.

I am also very disappointed in the crochet directions -- they are very different from every other pattern book I have bought and from any pattern I have downloaded off the Internet or purchased online. With these author's directions most of the patterns are not crocheted "in the round," but rather in rows and the sections are then sewed together. Very odd. I will probably not be using these patterns. The author does have a few that are made with the traditional spiral technique, but none are the animal patterns. I wish the book's description or a reviewer had indicated this difference. I would not recommend this book for a beginner, as they will not find any other amigurumi patterns crocheted in this manner. I have never found an amigurumi pattern on Ravelry or Pinterest or anywhere on the Internet using the technique in this book.

Even the title is misleading. Don't waste your money.

This book is a wonderful addition to your crochet library for anyone who enjoys crafting delightful gifts. Instructions are very well written and photos clear and easy to follow. I like the spiral binding that allows the book to open fully. This is a must have book for the serious crochet enthusiast!

Cosmetically the book looks great. I got a hard back copy

Cosmetically the book looks great. I got a hard back copy. The pages are sturdy, the pictures are lovely. Everything about the book looks great. My complaint is the way the patterns are made. They are not made in 'the round' like your classic amigurumi patterns. The critters in the book are made by making flat pieces and sewing them together. Think how you would cut out flat pieces of fabric and sew them together to make a toy. Its like that, and I hate when amigurumi patterns are wrote that way. I made one pattern exactly how the pattern said to and it turned out so ugly. I have been crocheting and knitting 7 years so its not like I am a newbit trying to figure out the pattern.

His magnum opus was the founding of Speech to Speech, a federally mandated telephone service for people with speech disabilities.

fascinating

Great book. I'm a healthcare professional, yet I knew very little about the psychosocial aspects of life with cerebral palsy. Dr. Segalman's book is a fast read with fascinating insight into a world most people will never know or understand. Well worth the $12 bucks. I wish I would have went to his website first, because apparently for the same price the author will sign and ship. I'm not sure if that is still the case, though.

An amazing story about Bob's victory over his disability

Having been a friend of Bob's for nearly fifty years, I might be accused of having a bias in strongly recommending this book to all disabled and able-bodied people. But I don't need that bias to say that this book is so important, especially for us 'able-bodied' types.

For those of us who have never lived with a disability, it's impossible to know what it is to live with that disability day in and day out. What is it like to be disabled in all stages of life? What is it like to try to express yourself when your body will never cooperate? What kinds of issues do disabled people have to deal with in all phases of life? For the answer to many if not all of these questions, all you have to do is to read Bob's book.

This book is a story of Bob's life, and how Bob has never let his cerebral palsy define him. His courage and determination to be heard and loved and understood outside of that framework have taught me so much about living my own life.

If you want to get a story about disability 'from the source', you couldn't find a better book than Bob's. And it is told with candor and his always-present well-honed sense of humor.

Bob used his passion to be heard into a non-profit that gives a voice to many people with speech disabilities, Speech-to-Speech ([...] I support them and I hope that after reading this book, you will do the same. Or just do it anyway. There are many like Bob who will benefit from this superb service.

Ziauddin Sardar (London, UK), writer, broadcaster and cultural critic, is Professor of Law and Society, Middlesex University. He was editor of Futures, the monthly journal of policy, planning and futures studies, from 1999 to 2011. Described as "Britain's own Muslim polymath," He has worked as a science journalist for Nature and New Scientist, as reporter for London Weekend Television and Channel 4 and has made numerous television and radio programmes for the BBC. A former columnist on the New Statesman, he is widely known as a public intellectual and appears frequently on radio and television. Currently, he is Consulting Editor of Futures.

Hmm

Interesting read. As someone who studies psychology, it is easy for me to get down about things. There are tons of broken things in society, but it is refreshing to read alternative perspectives. This isn't a "10 easy steps" to anything book, but more of a "cliffnotes of research of the future." I appreciate its open candor and honesty. There is little we know, but also plenty we do know. So doing the best we have to walk forward with what we got is better than ignorantly running forward.

Finally a book that has it ALL!

As a pelvic floor educator, yoga instructor and reforming pelvic pain sufferer, i have to say this is the best book out there on the subject. I travel the country educating women about their pelvic floors and until now have only been able to refer the women who have tightness or pain to books that were lacking in some way. This book gives you the "how to" on every level. Very easy to read and understand for the lay person. Very clear and concise on instructions (for example on self massage). With this book, Isa can help others that cannot get to her office. Isa's voice is loud and clear that her intent is to alleviate suffering. In the world of yoga, alleviating the suffering of others is one of the highest callings. She has my utmost respect as a pioneer in the field. Buy this book if you have pelvic pain. It is invaluable.

After having gone through physical therapy to the end of my financial resources I thought that the only hope left for me was medication and what few home exercises I had learned. Good for practice!

I purchased this book to give my son an idea of what to expect on a standardized test he was preparing to take. I was very happy with the examples given in the book. He was presented with numerous analogy forms and became familiar with how to read and interpret them accordingly.
